Cloud Atlas
The downside to dating a person who has been reincarnated is that their list of past lovers quadruples.
Fortunately, the recycled soul mates in this sci-fi film are always attracted to each other.
This journey into the past, present and future begins on a slave ship in 1849: an idealistic lawyer (Jim Sturgess) protests the human cargo; he is slowly poisoned.
1936: a composer (Ben Whishaw) pens his magnum opus; his mentor (Jim Broadbent) steals it.
1973: a journalist (Halle Berry) exposes oil company corruption; her life is endangered.
2144: a clone (Doona Bae) and a rebel (Jim Sturgess) flee a nightmarish Neo Seoul.
Beyond: Zachry (Tom Hanks) helps Meronym (Halle Berry) locate the cryptic Cloud Atlas.
An expansive epic with connecting threads throughout, Cloud Atlas’ acting is hard to digest but its grandiose message is worth a second helping.
And while reincarnation is hopeful, reincarnation mixed with karma is not.  0
Texas Chainsaw 3D
Discovering that your family tree's teeming with serial killers is one of the few benefits to ancestry.com.
But it wasn’t the genealogy website that tipped off the ancestor in this horror movie - it was a lawyer.
Inheriting her biological grandmother’s (Marilyn Burns) home, Heather (Alexandra Daddario), her friends (Tania Raymonde, Tremaine Neverson, Keram Malicki-Sánchez) and a hitchhiker (Shaun Sipos) travel to Texas to learn more about her relations.
While staying at the family abode, Heather’s friends are promptly disemboweled by the chainsaw wielding manic, Leatherface (Dan Yeager), in the basement.
Fortunately, Heather is spared from Leatherface's chainsaw thanks to their shared bloodline. She later helps him kill hillbillies.
A sequel to the 1974 original, this flaccid follow up fails in its attempt to humanize Leatherface by justifying his pointless massacres.
However, if he refined his gashes and changed mediums, Leatherface and his chainsaw could excel at ice carving contests.  0

TimeCrimes
When travelling through time to kill someone, it’s important to mention time travel during your murder trial.
However, in this thriller, it'll be difficult for all 3 versions of the accused to plead insanity.
Héctor (Karra Elejalde) and Clara (Candela Fernandez) move to a rustic abode in the country.
While Clara is out one day, Héctor spots a nude woman (Barbara Goenaga) adjacent to the woods on their property.
Curious, he investigates. But when he reaches the now-deceased woman, he’s attacked by a man with a pair of scissors and a face swathed in pink bandages.
Escaping his attacker, Héctor hides at the home of a scientist, whose experimental contraption thrusts him backwards, moments before the woman’s murder.
A mind-bending mystery laced with paradoxical perversions, this Spanish language sci-fi offering is smart and spooky.
But when murdering people in the past, it’s important to bone up on your family tree beforehand.
